Geriatrics: According to professional and educational standards

Abstract

Geriatrics is a subspecialization of internal medicine concerned with the health and care of aged persons. It is characterized by comprehesive geriatric assessment of the health conditions of older people, which is consider to be the key to successful preventive, dignostic and therapeutic approach. Geriatricians possess specific knowledge and skills within the field of their expertise necessary for achieving high professional standards in the domain of both acute and chronic care and rehabilitation of older people. The paradigm of both undergraduate and postgraduate education and training within the field of geriatrics is discussed in this paper.
