Authors retain full copyright and all moral rights to their published articles at all times.
By submitting a manuscript to Biomedicinska istraživanja, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to publish, reproduce, distribute, display, archive and make the article permanently available to the public in all known and future media (including print, electronic and digital formats).
This license is granted solely for the purpose of dissemination and does not limit the authors’ rights to use, reuse or further distribute their own work in any way they choose.
2. Open Access License
Biomedicinska istraživanja is a full immediate open-access journal with no embargo periods of any kind.
All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
This license allows anyone to:
- read, download, copy, print, search, link to, and crawl the full text for indexing
- distribute the work
- remix, transform, adapt, and build upon the material
for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given in the manner specified below.
No prior permission from the journal or the authors is required for any use that complies with the license terms.

3. Mandatory Notice on Every Published Article
Every article published in Biomedicinska istraživanja (both in HTML and PDF format) must clearly display the following standardised notice at the beginning or end of the article:

This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author(s) and source are credited.
This notice ensures full compliance with open-access requirements and is one of the most frequently checked elements by indexing services (DOAJ, Scopus, Web of Science, etc.).
4. Author Responsibilities and Declarations
Upon submission, authors declare and warrant that:
- the submitted work is original, has not been previously published (in whole or in part), and is not under consideration by another publisher
- publication of the article will not infringe any copyright or other proprietary rights of third parties
- all authors fulfil the ICMJE authorship criteria, have approved the final version of the manuscript, and agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work

5. Use of Third-Party Material
Authors are solely responsible for obtaining written permission from the copyright holder(s) for any figures, tables, images, photographs, or other material included in the manuscript for which they do not hold copyright.
Such permissions must be secured prior to submission and provided to the editorial office upon request.
6. Self-Archiving / Green Open Access
Authors are strongly encouraged and explicitly permitted to deposit any version of their article (preprint, author-accepted manuscript, or the final published Version of Record) in:
- institutional repositories
- personal websites
- subject-based repositories (PubMed Central, Europe PMC, arXiv, etc.)
- other suitable non-commercial platforms
at any time, without embargo. When depositing the published version, authors should include the full citation and a direct link to the article on the journal’s website.
7. Long-term Digital Preservation
The journal is committed to the permanent accessibility and preservation of published content. All articles are deposited in institutional repositories and registered with reliable long-term digital preservation services.
8. Policy Consistency and Updates
This Copyright and Open Access Policy forms an integral part of the journal’s Editorial and Publishing Policy and Instructions for Authors. It is fully aligned with the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).
Any future changes to this policy will be announced on the journal’s website with sufficient advance notice.
